When did you learn to skate?

-I started figure skating lessons when I was 3.

Did you play hockey growing up?

-Nope, I didn’t step on hockey skates until I was in high school.

What other sports did you play growing up?

-I did soccer and competed in track in high school (100m and 300m hurdles).

If you could do anything non-athletic in your spare time, what is it?

-Traveling and exploring new places.

Are there any other good hobbies that you have?

-Lately I have been getting better at road biking and cooking.

Describe going down an icecross downhill track for the first time:

-Absolutely terrifying, but the folks there really helped me feel at home. Also falling on the tracks generally hurts a heck of a lot less than at the skate park because you slide more.

What are your guilty pleasures? Why do you wake up in the morning?

-My guilty pleasure is definitely chocolate and sweets. I would say that wanting to make a difference gets me out of bed. Whether it’s designing products that people love or inspiring people to follow their dreams.

How long have you been competing in ice cross downhill?
-The 2016-2017 season was my rookie year

What first got you interested in the sport?
-I went to the St. Paul race in 2016, turned to my dad and said “next year you will be here watching me”.

If there is one piece of advice that you could offer new riders, what would it be?
-Just go for it and know that it will get better with time and practice. Also I highly recommend starting out at the Rider’s Cups.

What is your best result or favourite memory at a Red Bull Crashed Ice?

-My favorite aspect of Red Bull Crashed Ice is definitely the community and the people. It is an amazing group and it has been incredible to make new friends around the world. This was pretty clear when a group of us ended up at the Disco in Austria until 7am after my first race.

Who is your favorite sports athlete?

-Derek Stepan
